Environmental Conservation Actives
For the Future of the Planet
Protecting the earth and caring for nature—these are principles that Audio-Technica has remained committed to since our foundation, as we have continued to pursue crystal clear and captivating sounds. The entire Audio-Technica Group has been moving forward with environmental conservation activities that follow the ISO 14001 international standard, so that we can create an even more beautiful planet earth in the future.
This includes actively making products that are compatible with European Union’s RoHS Directive.
The RoHS Directive, which was issued by the European Union (EU), is an abbreviation of Restriction of Hazardous Substances that is taken from the European Parliament and Council’s “Directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.” It was promulgated in February 2003, and came into force from July 1, 2006. In accordance with this Directive, since July 1, 2006, any electrical and electronic equipment that contains more than the regulatory values of the following six substances of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), cannot be sold in EU member nations. On July 22, 2019, four more substances were added—bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)—bringing the total to ten substances.
Audio-Technica Group: Our approach to environmental conservation activities
- Head Office and Naruse Office
- At the Head Office located in the new premises, we mainly deal in business related to audio-visual equipment. In July 2002, the former Machida Office was quick to acquire the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certification. We set an environmental policy for all work processes from planning and product development to sales. Since then, we have continued to monitor the implementation status of these activities while carrying out even more high-level and multifaceted conservation activities, including resource-saving and energy-saving initiatives and efforts to prevent environmental pollution. We have also placed emphasis on environmental conservation measures at the Naruse Office, which is located in a residential area, since its establishment. Following on from the Head Office, the Naruse Office acquired ISO 14001 Certification in January 2003. Audio-Technica is actively and continuously striving to do better and aim higher in our environmental conservation activities, including the priority target of reducing the amount of environmentally controlled substances (such as lead and mercury) in the development and manufacture of audio, food processing, and cleaning equipment, and green procurement (selecting raw materials with a low environmental burden).

- Audio-Technica Fukui
- At Audio-Technica Fukui, we have the slogan of “environmental activities that keep people thinking and acting into the future.” Our environmental principles are to contribute to society through the business activities of developing, manufacturing, and selling audio products and accessories such as actuators, wireless microphones, and headphones, while making efforts to continually improve on the main impacts that all of our business activities have on the environment, so that we can continue to be a company that is integrated with the lush green global environment and trusted by local residents, customers, employees, and other stakeholders. To achieve this, we have established an environmental policy, and pledge to protect this precious and irreplaceable earth.
Audio-Technica Group:Our policy on the responsible sourcing of minerals
Conflict minerals are resources that originate from high-risk areas such as regions with conflicts and political instability, collapsing social infrastructure, and widespread violence. In conventional surveys on conflict minerals, in accordance with the U.S. Dodd-Frank Act, the usage status of four types of minerals—tin (Sn), tantalum (Ta), tungsten (W), and gold (Au) must be disclosed due to the possibility that these minerals may be used as funding for the weapons procurement and activities of armed insurgents in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the surrounding nine countries. The responsible sourcing of minerals includes not using minerals that are complicit in human rights violations from a CSR perspective, with the applicable range expanded to OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) conflict-affected and high-risk areas (CAHRAs). The Audio-Technica Group views the responsible sourcing of minerals as a part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR), and with the collaboration and cooperation of our clients and business partners, we have set the policy of the “non-use of minerals (high-risk minerals) that are at risk of being complicit in human rights violations and conflicts.” We are carrying out surveys on the usage status of high-risk minerals while moving forward with this policy. Specifically, we are requesting our suppliers to continually implement the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP) established by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI). We will take appropriate action if we identify the usage of high-risk minerals in the raw materials and components of our products.

Statement on the UK Modern Slavery Act
As a business operating in the United Kingdom, in FY 2025, Audio-Technica made a statement on the UK Modern Slavery Act, which was enacted in the UK in 2015. We will continue to make the necessary efforts to prevent forced labor, exploitation, and human trafficking in the supply chain, take part in discussions on the steps needed to comply with the relevant laws and regulations, and then carry out these steps. Through these activities, we are making our employees even more aware of these issues.
